How To Apply Waterproofing Products

There are different types of waterproofing products which have different simple and easy application method.

The waterproofing products are mainly used are:

  1. Liquid waterproofing membrane.

They are flexible membrane either be hand or spray applied on surfaces such as podium decks, iron roofs, balconies etc. They are also use in alignment of water tank to prevent leakage.

Step of application:

The surface of the application should be clean i.e. free of grease, oil or any loose material. Apply the primmer on the working area using a brush or paint coverage of 2-3cm thickness

Let is sit for about 5-8 mins for the second coat. Later place it on direct sunlight to full dryness on the application.

  1. Bituminous waterproofing.

Its used on reinforce concrete roof between the top roof and the building concrete materials used to prevent water leakage.

The package is mainly in rolls and package as per the manufacture’s preference and safety caution.

Steps of application:

The surface of the application should be clean i.e. free of grease, oil or any loose material

For slope up to 3 inch the membrane should be laid perpendicular or parallel to slope. This ensures that water is never be running at joint lap edge. One should avoid any wrinkles during application for best results.

Allow it to rest for 24-48hrs for final results.

  1. Polyurethane Waterproofing.

It’s made up of s components base and reactor, it acts as a base. Unlike other waterproofing agent, polyurethane requires a less skill application and supervision. Application is fast and used on post construction sites.

Steps of application:

The surface of the application should be clean i.e. free of grease, oil or any loose material. Any crack on the surface should be cleaned and filled with base or filler.

2-3 layers of polyurethane primer coat is first applied to the surface to serve as an adhesion coat and allowed to dry for at least 8-12 hours before application of the next coat.

For a rough surface results, you can sprinkle a little micron sand on the surface before complete dryness.

  1. Cementitious Waterproofing.

It’s among the easiest waterproofing materials to apply. They are readily available material and ready for use once purchased.

Steps of application:

The surface of the application should be clean i.e. free of grease, oil or any loose material.

Use a long hand brush, mix cementitious waterproofing with cement t get a better bonding and a more solid, durable coating.

The cementitious products have no stretching degree worth mentioning. They will stand up to fine to head water but will have no joint or crack movement.

  1. Bitushield Emulsion.

It’s a bitumen product supplied on concreated form. As a thermal insulation and other porous construction surfaces its intended to seal porosity.

How to Apply The Best Waterproofing Products

Steps of application:

The surface of the application should be clean i.e. free of grease, oil or any loose material

Use of brush or spray on the working surface. Apply 2 coats of about 0.75kg per M2 and allow it to sit for 5-6 hour between the two coats

Apply the coats at the right and correct angle to the previous coat

For best result apply a prime before the first coat of bitushield

Avoid any liquid i.e. water before the product applied has fully dried
